We are so proud of Jakk. This is his story…
“On Tuesday the 10th of October I attended the stars of Lowestoft and Waveney awards 2017. I was one of the final 3 nominees after a long process of elimination. After a vote between a board of judges they voted me to be this years winner. I won the award “young person of they year” 2017.
The reason for my triumph is in 2015 I collapsed and was taken to hospital where after many tests they found an irregularity in my heart rate. I was then sent to great ormand street the next month and from then onwards I have been back and forth to london, to great ormond street hospital. In february 2016 I had a loop recorder implanted in my chest to constantly monitor my heart rate 24/7. Due to this over year 10/11 I missed around 3 months of school yet still managed to catch up and achieve an A in english literature a C in geography and philosophy and ethics and Bs in all other subjects.
Also after all of the help I’ve received from great ormond street I decided to raise money for them. I done this by holding the annual bad hair day event great ormond street do at my high school as well as organising a christmas fair to raise money for great ormond street as well as a bake sale at another time. I raised more than £2,000 in total. Also during the summer I weant on the NCS course (National Citizen Service) on this course we had to create a social action plan. Our groups social action plan was to raise money to buy a karaoke machine and a sensory room at Royal Avenue Nursing home in lowestoft.
We raised a total of £658 in total over two weeks. After all of this the judges decided I was a worthy winner of the award.”
