L6FC – 3

Burnt Hill FC – 4

Bitter cold wind and pouring rain – a common occurrence for the members of L6FC football team – assaulted the players as they took part in their fourth match against Burnt Hill FC for the Suffolk FA Monday Night Football League. The whistle blew. Both teams were off, which drew great blocks from L6FC’s Sam McKinnon (4) at centre back. The pace increased and within the first two minutes, Lewis Cooper (12) received the ball and ran it into the opposition’s box. Pulling the defenders with him as he ran directly for goal allowed Jack Malcolm (10) a free run. A quick pass to his right and Malcolm slotted the ball in across the keeper to score L6FC first goal. Not happy with an assist, Cooper tried again with a daring shot. However Burnt Hill’s keeper produced an amazing save, sending the shot wide for a corner. Delivered high to the far post, L6FC scrambled to make something of the cross but Burnt Hill were having none of it. With an almighty clearance Burnt Hill were safe. As L6FC swiftly wrestled to regain control of game, with strong tackles erupting from both sides as Burnt Hill tried to equalise the score, ultimately landed L6FC with a free kick. Unsatisfied with just one goal, Malcolm took a valiant attempt at goal though it just swung wide to the left brushing the post.
Halfway through the first half and Burnt Hill’s striker Mark Clay (12) managed to squeeze past L6FC defence to score the equaliser with a shot aimed low that curled away from the keepers grasp. Four minutes later, Jack Whale (7) passed the ball to Cooper. Up to his old tricks, Cooper challenged Burnt Hill with his quick feet. Dancing to the left of the box, Cooper went for goal. With a powerful shot that drove the ball into the back of the net, straight through the keeper’s legs. Kale Brown (8) delivered an impressive low cross that scraped Burnt Hill’s goal line but was unable to infiltrate Burnt Hill’s well positioned defence. After a lucky block from an excellently placed defender, Burnt Hill were on the attack. With some fluent passing they managed to penetrate L6FC’s defence and scored another goal which made it two all. Following some ferocious well timed tackles on the right wing, Niall Hunt (11) delivered the perfect ball, low to the ground precisely to Malcolm’s feet. Opponents beat, he remained composed as he handed L6FC their third goal. Snapping to attention, Burnt Hill refused to be three-two down at half time. Jake Jaki (9) scored Burnt Hill’s third goal making it even.
Some bold decisions from manager Danny Handisides during the interval gave L6FC a fresh team with three new pairs of legs. Second half kicked off and Burnt Hill upped their antics. Harder battles developed between the two adversaries as they raced for the ball. Ten minutes gone and Burnt Hill scored their winner. A hat trick for Clay as his shot surpassed the hands of outstretched keeper Billy Coughlin (1) in goal. The drama was not over yet. With a late foul given to L6FC enabled centre midfielder Aaron Phillips (6) the chance to shine. A wonderful shot that fell admirably into the bottom left corner of the goal. Regrettably, the goal was disallowed due to the offside rule. Although Lowestoft Sixth Form College struggled against the weather, they sadly lost 4-3 to Burnt Hill. L6FC are currently fourth in the table but have high hopes for their next match on Monday 1 December against LK Dons who feature below them in the results though have only played two matches.
