The atmosphere was filled with jubilation on Thursday morning, as students celebrated their A Level results. Having been rated in the Department of Education’s performance tables as the top performing sixth form college in the East of England, we achieved yet another set of outstanding results.
Students achieved a fantastic 99% A Level pass rate for the consecutive year, with 74% of students achieving A* to C grades.
Chief Executive Officer Stuart Rimmer said “Our students are fantastic and should be proud of all their hard work. Since the merger, Lowestoft Sixth Form College is proudly part of East Coast College where we understand the importance of giving local residents the best possible START. A special well done should be given to all our staff and to the students’ parents whose contribution should not be forgotten. We are extremely fortunate to be able to offer one of the widest range of courses in the East of England and still have places available for September.”
The atrium was alive with excitement, with students sharing their positive results with friends and family opposite busy construction workers building the new £10 Million Energy Skills Centre.
Huw Riley achieved a fantastic three A grades in Physics, Chemistry and Maths, and will be going to Cardiff University to study Physics and Astronomy. He said “I could not have chosen a better sixth form college to go to. I could not have received any better help and support from my teachers.”
Our students have once again performed significantly better than the national averages for schools and colleges, and have exceeded their own targets based on their GCSE grades. With the support of our excellent teaching staff and facilities, our students STANDOUT and progress on to a range of top universities, employment and apprenticeships”, commented Principal, Keith Shiels.
With over 630 students receiving grades on Thursday, it is important to remember that whilst we celebrate the successes and statistics, each student has a different path. We are proud of all our students and are confident that they will continue to STANDOUT as they embark on their next steps.
