Information for 2025/2026 entry

We plan to offer a programme of study for up to 40 students who are electively home schooled for the 2025/26 academic year. Due to high interest, this provision will only be offered to students born between 1st September 2009 and 31st August 2010 (Year 11). The programme will be a one-year, part time offer. The curriculum of study we offer will ensure students can progress to successful post-16 education including Lowestoft Sixth Form.

Our 2025/2026 curriculum offer will include the following:

  • GCSE English Language
  • GCSE Mathematics
  • GCSE Science (Double Award)
  • Careers and Wellbeing Programme

It is proposed that students will attend the college site for 2.5 days a week (timetables to be confirmed at enrolment).

Students will be selected carefully for this provision to ensure they will benefit from the programme, can meet the academic requirements to achieve GCSEs within one year and that they align fully with the college expectations of behaviour.

The application window for the 2025/26 programme will be open from Monday 24th February to 12noon on Monday 31st March. Applications after this date will not be considered.

All applicants will be subject to a robust selection and interview process before being considered for a place.

All applications will be considered for a place in 2025/26 using the following priority order considerations:

  • Students who also applied in the 2024-25 academic year and were not placed will be given priority consideration.
  • Students from the above group will be considered for a place on the programme in the order of earliest date of registration as EHE with the relevant county council.
  • New applications for 2025/26 will be considered for a place on the programme in the order of earliest date of registration as EHE with the relevant county council.
  • All students will be subject to selection criteria and will be offered a place when all criteria have been successfully met (following the priority order described in 1-3 above).

Students who are not registered as EHE will not be considered under any circumstances.

Following the timely submission of an application, you will be sent a supplementary information form to complete and return alongside a request to submit evidence of the student’s current work in English and maths (and science if available) and their last school report. We will apply for a reference from the last school attended* and once this is received applicants will be invited into the college to spend a half day with us to complete a diagnostic assessment in both maths and English.  They will also be asked to write a personal statement to tell us about their reasons for joining the course and their aspirations going forward.

* If the applicant has never been to school, we will require a professional reference (excluding those from family members, relatives or family friends) who can comment on the applicant’s behaviours and suitability for GCSE study. Examples could include club or society leaders, work placement supervisors or similar.

This will enable us to determine each applicant’s current attainment level to ensure that this course will meet their needs. The diagnostics are anticipated to take place the week beginning 19th May.

Results of diagnostics will be reviewed and final interviews for the course will take place in June.  Those applicants who are successful will be offered a place.

An information evening will take place in July for students, parents or caregivers where we will provide an overview of the course and our expectations of enrolment with us. Enrolment and continuation of a place on the programme are subject to all college polices and processes.

Selection process summary:

  • College application form submitted by 31st March 2025.
  • Submission of supplementary information form and evidence by 30th April 2025.
